Fourth of July Travel, 2026

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is “expecting to screen nearly 18.7 million travelers at U.S. airport security checkpoints between Tuesday, June 30, and Monday, July 6”. The highest volume day is expected to be July 2nd, with more than 3 million people going through security. To avoid delays, it’s recommended to arrive early at the airport, in anticipation of the increased travel volume.

Additionally, airports in Washington D.C. plan to close their airspace for temporary periods on July 3rd and 4th for holiday celebrations, including flyovers, fireworks, and parachute jumps. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) will suspend flights for several hours on July 3rd, and all flights after 12 pm ET on July 4th.

Additional airspace disruptions are expected at East Coast airports, including those in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
