TSA Secure Flight Program

Secure Flight Overview

Secure Flight is a program developed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to a key 9/11 Commission recommendation: uniform watch list matching by TSA. The mission of the Secure Flight program is to enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel through the use of improved watch list matching.

Secure Flight will be implemented in phases throughout 2009 with milestones occurring on the following dates:
  • May 15 - Airlines required by TSA to begin collecting the full name from passengers
  • Aug 15 - Airlines required by TSA to begin collecting full name, gender and date of birth

Impact on Travelers

As a result of this change, the TSA will begin monitoring new information for each traveler prior to their check in. Travelers whose bookings do not contain this information may be subject to secondary security screening. This information includes:
  • Complete First Name, Middle Name and Last Name that matches the Government issued ID used at check in.
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth
To address this change, Cain Travel has made modifications to its Traveler Profile fields to allow entry of this newly required information.

As a Traveler, What Should I Do?

Cain Travel is encouraging its clients to review and update their individual travel profiles to edit/update these fields. The TSA does not require that this information be present in each of your bookings, but failure to provide this information may result in delays at security during check-in.

To update your profile:
  • Login using the 'Update Your Profile' section at the top right of this page
  • Click on 'Edit Profile' in the 'Traveler Tools' section of the Traveler Portal
  • Edit the 'Personal Information' section of your profile, and click save
We also suggest that travelers review their Airline Frequent Flier accounts to ensure that the names on those accounts match their legal names to ensure proper mileage credit.
